PARENTING

Parents today spend considerable time first to bring their child into the world and then to prepare the child to succeed. Indeed, raising children today is challenging then ever before. It is therefore justifiable on their part to be well versed with the latest trends, gadgets and wares that one needs to be a 'good' parent. Besides fulfilling the primary requirements that child needs, which is love, care, food, clothes and shelter, a good parent will help the child to succeed in life. Good parenting promotes value based learning and develops intellectual curiosity and desire to establish a healthy bond with the child.

Parents are the most important and influential persons in the lives of children. Therefore, there is need to promote effective parenting and educate them because every child has a right to be effectively and gently raised by the parents.

Good Parenting Guidelines

Togethertime

Establish a regular weekly routine for doing something special with your child, even if it's just going out for a walk in the park/or taking a meal outside.

Listen!

Be an active listener. Encourage questions and show your willingness to listen. This will make your child feel more comfortable about opening up to you.

Hugs and Kisses

Parental warmth, care and acceptance are pivotal ingredients in effective parenting. Never belittle your child for he/she will learn to resent you. Kiss your child, pat him, hug him/her and say "I love you".

Foster Your Child's Independence

Let your child explore childhood fun and do it all by him/herself. This will help him/her feel independent, and develop a sense of self-direction and simultaneously boost his self esteem.

Watch your Speech!

Try to tell your child what you DO want rather than what you DON'T want. Use of negative remarks such as, can't, don't, no and stop, depress the child and sometimes make him rebel. Positive approach increases the feelings of cooperation and respect, and reduces the number of power struggles you one have with the child.

Quality care during early years is vital component of each child's life. The experience received during early years with parent's warmth, love and understanding can produce long-term, positive effects on your child.
